Japan stocks lower at close of trade; Nikkei 225 down 0.49%

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 lost 0.49%.

The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Tokyo Electric Power Co., Inc. (TYO:9501), which rose 9.96% or 50.00 points to trade at 552.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (TYO:7011) added 6.85% or 334.00 points to end at 5,209.00 and Toho Zinc Co., Ltd. (TYO:5707) was up 6.08% or 145.00 points to 2,529.00 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Konami Corp. (TYO:9766), which fell 2.82% or 210.00 points to trade at 7,250.00 at the close. Marui Group Co., Ltd. (TYO:8252) declined 2.28% or 57.00 points to end at 2,441.00 and Tokyo Electron Ltd. (TYO:8035) was down 2.18% or 990.00 points to 44,330.00.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1985 to 1468 and 324 ended unchanged.

The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 4.42% to 20.06.

Crude oil for October delivery was up 0.30% or 0.28 to $94.02 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in October rose 0.24% or 0.24 to hit $100.46 a barrel, while the December Gold Futures contract fell 0.18% or 3.15 to trade at $1,758.05 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was down 0.10% to 136.65, while EUR/JPY fell 0.27% to 135.96.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.06% at 108.62.
