India stocks lower at close of trade; Nifty 50 down 1.03%

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 1.03%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 1.04%.

The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Tata Motors Ltd (NS:TAMO), which rose 5.89% or 22.95 points to trade at 412.40 at the close. Meanwhile, Apollo Hospitals Enterprises Ltd. (NS:APLH) added 1.46% or 64.30 points to end at 4,472.00 and Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC) was up 1.46% or 6.85 points to 477.60 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Adani Enterprises Ltd (NS:ADEL), which fell 5.67% or 218.45 points to trade at 3,636.85 at the close. Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NS:BRTI) declined 2.98% or 24.40 points to end at 795.00 and Eicher Motors Ltd. (NS:EICH) was down 2.84% or 92.60 points to 3,169.95.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which rose 1.29% to 211.80, Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which was up 1.15% to settle at 118.85 and Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which gained 0.81% to close at 2,643.70.

The worst performers were Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which was down 2.92% to 795.40 in late trade, State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which lost 2.09% to settle at 595.15 and HDFC Bank Ltd (BO:HDBK) which was down 1.76% to 1,569.30 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1229 to 663 and 70 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1997 fell and 1390 advanced, while 132 ended unchanged.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 5.85% to 15.51.

Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.01% or 0.10 to $1,877.90 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 0.54% or 0.40 to hit $75.03 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 0.34% or 0.27 to trade at $79.92 a barrel.

USD/INR was down 0.49% to 81.76, while EUR/INR fell 0.41% to 87.79.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.20% at 102.95.
