India stocks lower at close of trade; Nifty 50 down 0.71%

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 0.71%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 0.69%.

The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Hero MotoCorp Ltd (NS:HROM), which rose 2.30% or 61.00 points to trade at 2,712.50 at the close. Meanwhile, HDFC Bank Ltd (NS:HDBK) added 1.09% or 16.40 points to end at 1,524.75 and Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (NS:KTKM) was up 0.99% or 18.75 points to 1,912.15 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Tata Motors Ltd (NS:TAMO), which fell 4.84% or 20.95 points to trade at 412.20 at the close. AXIS Bank Ltd (NS:AXBK) declined 3.43% or 30.00 points to end at 843.70 and Bajaj Finserv Ltd (NS:BJFS) was down 2.99% or 52.35 points to 1,700.35.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were HDFC Bank Ltd (BO:HDBK) which rose 1.13% to 1,525.25, Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which was up 1.09% to settle at 826.55 and Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (BO:KTKM) which gained 0.83% to close at 1,912.15.

The worst performers were AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which was down 3.54% to 843.40 in late trade, Bajaj Finserv Ltd (BO:BJFS) which lost 3.04% to settle at 1,700.20 and Titan Company Ltd (BO:TITN) which was down 2.99% to 2,636.85 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1322 to 562 and 51 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2107 fell and 1240 advanced, while 125 ended unchanged.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 2.18% to 15.57.

Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.24% or 4.05 to $1,709.65 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 1.21% or 1.04 to hit $84.79 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 0.95% or 0.88 to trade at $91.77 a barrel.

USD/INR was up 0.48% to 81.73, while EUR/INR fell 0.18% to 81.29.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.30% at 110.79.
