India stocks lower at close of trade; Nifty 50 down 0.55%

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 0.55%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 0.43%.

The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (NS:REDY), which rose 1.69% or 72.15 points to trade at 4,347.10 at the close. Meanwhile, Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (NS:KTKM) added 1.44% or 26.70 points to end at 1,881.00 and Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (NS:HDFC) was up 1.42% or 30.85 points to 2,206.80 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Divi’s Laboratories Ltd. (NS:DIVI), which fell 6.06% or 236.20 points to trade at 3,661.70 at the close. Tech Mahindra Ltd (NS:TEML) declined 3.90% or 44.55 points to end at 1,098.35 and Grasim Industries Ltd (NS:GRAS) was down 3.75% or 54.65 points to 1,402.75.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (BO:REDY) which rose 1.80% to 4,351.10, Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (BO:HDFC) which was up 1.74% to settle at 2,210.00 and Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (BO:KTKM) which gained 1.35% to close at 1,880.85.

The worst performers were Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:TEML) which was down 3.92% to 1,098.05 in late trade, Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which lost 2.98% to settle at 2,309.05 and HCL Technologies Ltd (BO:HCLT) which was down 2.57% to 991.95 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1371 to 473 and 41 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2191 fell and 1006 advanced, while 122 ended unchanged.

Shares in Divi’s Laboratories Ltd. (NS:DIVI) fell to 52-week lows; falling 6.06% or 236.20 to 3,661.70.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 9.56% to 25.64 a new 1-month high.

Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.35% or 6.45 to $1,854.25 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 0.29% or 0.32 to hit $110.61 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 0.25% or 0.28 to trade at $111.06 a barrel.

USD/INR was up 0.12% to 77.60, while EUR/INR rose 0.31% to 83.11.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.09% at 102.01.
