France stocks mixed at close of trade; CAC 40 down 1.40%

At the close in Paris, the CAC 40 declined 1.40% to hit a new 1-month low, while the SBF 120 index added 0.39%.

The best performers of the session on the CAC 40 were Orange SA (EPA:ORAN), which rose 1.11% or 0.12 points to trade at 10.48 at the close. Meanwhile, Teleperformance SE (EPA:TEPRF) added 0.75% or 0.66 points to end at 88.82 and L’Oreal SA (EPA:OREP) was down 0.08% or 0.35 points to 415.10 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were ArcelorMittal SA (AS:MT), which fell 6.90% or 1.76 points to trade at 23.76 at the close. Renault SA (EPA:RENA) declined 3.85% or 1.93 points to end at 48.19 and BNP Paribas SA (EPA:BNPP) was down 2.95% or 1.94 points to 63.83.

The top performers on the SBF 120 were Orpea SA (EPA:ORP) which rose 2.51% to 11.17, Air France KLM SA (EPA:AIRF) which was up 2.00% to settle at 9.40 and Vusiongroup SA (EPA:VU) which gained 1.83% to close at 139.00.

The worst performers were Valneva (EPA:VLS) which was down 7.27% to 3.72 in late trade, ArcelorMittal SA (AS:MT) which lost 6.90% to settle at 23.76 and Aperam SA (AS:APAM) which was down 6.68% to 27.12 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Paris Stock Exchange by 362 to 152 and 89 ended unchanged.

The CAC 40 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of CAC 40 options, was unchanged 0.00% to 18.96 a new 52-week high.

Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.89% or 21.30 to $2,404.30 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 0.04% or 0.03 to hit $85.44 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 0.03% or 0.03 to trade at $90.07 a barrel.

EUR/USD was unchanged 0.01% to 1.06, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.13% to 0.85.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.11% at 106.11.
