Australia stocks higher at close of trade; S&P/ASX 200 up 0.02%

At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 rose 0.02% to hit a new 1-month high.

The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Perpetual Ltd (ASX:PPT), which rose 7.79% or 2.92 points to trade at 40.38 at the close. Meanwhile, Cimic Group Ltd (ASX:CIM) added 5.85% or 1.21 points to end at 21.88 and Healius Ltd (ASX:HLS) was up 4.40% or 0.200 points to 4.750 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Flight Centre Ltd (ASX:FLT), which fell 5.82% or 1.26 points to trade at 20.39 at the close. Super Retail Group Ltd (ASX:SUL) declined 4.38% or 0.58 points to end at 12.65 and A2 Milk Company Ltd (ASX:A2M) was down 3.52% or 0.26 points to 7.13.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 737 to 664 and 403 ended unchanged.

The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was up 2.70% to 12.265.

Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.05% or 0.95 to $1783.95 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 0.43% or 0.36 to hit $83.06 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 0.75% or 0.64 to trade at $85.18 a barrel.

AUD/USD was down 0.28% to 0.7494, while AUD/JPY fell 0.45% to 85.48.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.09% at 93.623.
