Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMD) and Intel’s (NASDAQ:INTC) product roadmaps show the client market should remain competitive, according to Morgan Stanley analysts on Thursday.

The analysts, who kept an Underweight rating on Intel and Overweight on AMD, explained in a note to investors that AMD officially released its Zen 4 client desktop products, while Intel launched its Raptor Lake products at Intel Innovation this week.

“While the bigger story has been the collapse in desktop PC microprocessor volumes, desktop is one area where Intel improved its competitive outlook earlier this year with its Alder lake products,” wrote the analysts. “Alder Lake gave them a slight lead in single-threaded performance, which is key for the gaming market.

As a result, the analysts said it has translated to some share gains for Intel in the higher-end gaming desktop market that AMD had dominated over the last couple of years.

Nevertheless, AMD has “continued to gain in notebooks and mainstream consumer desktops, and is encroaching mildly in commercial.”

“In that context, new product launches from AMD (Zen 4 based desktop products which were officially released this week) and Intel (Raptor Lake, which was officially announced this week at the “Intel Innovation” event), should be a lead indicator to potential holiday market share,” added the analysts.
