Uber Technologies Inc. Chief Executive Dara Khosrowshahi said Wednesday the company is offering unlimited free rides from the Ukrainian border to Polish cities for refugees and their families as part of its effort to support Ukraine since it was invaded by Russia last week.

CEO also said in a post on LinkedIn that the company is helping transport supplies, is collecting donations for the International Rescue Committee through the Uber app and will match up to $1 million of those donations. That donation option will be available in the app for U.S. riders later this week, and in other countries later, the company said in a blog post. In addition, Khosrowshahi said the company is donating $500,000 to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and the United Nations World Food Program.
Uber is the latest big, Bay Area-based company to announce what it’s doing in response to the war. As Ukraine has appealed to the international business community for help, other tech companies have halted or paused services and product sales in Russia.

Since last week, Uber has taken action including “pausing operations across Ukraine and helping employees relocate to safer parts of Ukraine and nearby countries,” Khosrowshahi said, adding that the company would continue to monitor the situation. The company also said in its blog post that it has provided advance payment to “all drivers” in Ukraine.
The company has not responded to a request for more information Wednesday. The IRC confirmed Wednesday that Uber is supporting its response efforts, but the other two organizations that are set to receive the company’s donations have not returned requests for comment.
