At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.34% to hit a new all time high, while the S&P 500 index gained 0.12%, and the NASDAQ Composite index fell 0.06%.
The best performers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (NASDAQ:WBA), which rose 3.04% or 1.52 points to trade at 51.52 at the close. Meanwhile, Dow Inc (NYSE:DOW) added 2.28% or 1.29 points to end at 57.89 and UnitedHealth Group Incorporated (NYSE:UNH) was up 1.47% or 4.85 points to 334.48 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Cisco Systems Inc (NASDAQ:CSCO), which fell 3.03% or 1.47 points to trade at 47.03 at the close. Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) declined 1.38% or 2.97 points to end at 212.15 and Walmart Inc (NYSE:WMT) was down 0.98% or 1.43 points to 144.40.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR) which rose 12.63% to 67.43, Helmerich and Payne Inc (NYSE:HP) which was up 8.18% to settle at 28.05 and Under Armour Inc A (NYSE:UAA) which gained 8.20% to close at 22.42.
The worst performers were Akamai Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:AKAM) which was down 10.86% to 105.16 in late trade, FMC Corporation (NYSE:FMC) which lost 7.86% to settle at 107.21 and Interpublic Group of Companies Inc (NYSE:IPG) which was down 6.64% to 24.55 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Bio Path Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:BPTH) which rose 136.92% to 12.32, Anchiano Therapeutics Ltd (NASDAQ:ANCN) which was up 75.00% to settle at 4.900 and Sundial Growers Inc (NASDAQ:SNDL) which gained 70.30% to close at 2.81.
The worst performers were Panbela Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:PBLA) which was down 26.22% to 6.05 in late trade, Sino-Global Shipping America Ltd (NASDAQ:SINO) which lost 24.29% to settle at 6.8900 and Applied UV Inc (NASDAQ:AUVI) which was down 22.07% to 15.36 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 1733 to 1294 and 67 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1640 fell and 1468 advanced, while 59 ended unchanged.
Shares in Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR) rose to 5-year highs; rising 12.63% or 7.56 to 67.43. Shares in Under Armour Inc A (NYSE:UAA) rose to 52-week highs; up 8.20% or 1.70 to 22.42. Shares in Bio Path Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:BPTH) rose to 52-week highs; up 136.92% or 7.12 to 12.32. Shares in Anchiano Therapeutics Ltd (NASDAQ:ANCN) rose to 52-week highs; up 75.00% or 2.100 to 4.900. Shares in Sundial Growers Inc (NASDAQ:SNDL) rose to 52-week highs; rising 70.30% or 1.16 to 2.81.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 1.02% to 21.85.
Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.27% or 4.90 to $1842.40 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 0.39% or 0.23 to hit $58.59 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 0.20% or 0.12 to trade at $61.34 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.08% to 1.2127, while USD/JPY rose 0.06% to 104.63.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.05% at 90.377.
