At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 1.55% to hit a new all time high, while the S&P 500 index gained 1.63%, and the NASDAQ Composite index added 1.32%.
The best performers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Chevron Corp (NYSE:CVX), which rose 4.92% or 4.48 points to trade at 95.51 at the close. Meanwhile, JPMorgan Chase & Co (NYSE:JPM) added 4.28% or 5.05 points to end at 122.92 and American Express Company (NYSE:AXP) was up 3.88% or 4.51 points to 120.60 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Amgen Inc (NASDAQ:AMGN), which fell 0.85% or 1.90 points to trade at 220.32 at the close. Procter & Gamble Company (NYSE:PG) declined 0.41% or 0.57 points to end at 138.19 and Merck & Company Inc (NYSE:MRK) was down 0.25% or 0.20 points to 80.08.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Dollar Tree Inc (NASDAQ:DLTR) which rose 12.46% to 109.77, Mosaic Co (NYSE:MOS) which was up 11.44% to settle at 22.89 and Coty Inc (NYSE:COTY) which gained 10.13% to close at 7.55.
The worst performers were Best Buy Co Inc (NYSE:BBY) which was down 6.45% to 114.17 in late trade, Progressive Corp (NYSE:PGR) which lost 5.10% to settle at 88.19 and Hormel Foods Corporation (NYSE:HRL) which was down 4.38% to 47.84 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Ecmoho Ltd (NASDAQ:MOHO) which rose 147.55% to 3.54, Yunji Inc (NASDAQ:YJ) which was up 92.89% to settle at 4.34 and Fuel Tech Inc (NASDAQ:FTEK) which gained 87.23% to close at 5.2800.
The worst performers were Advaxis Inc (NASDAQ:ADXS) which was down 29.42% to 0.276 in late trade, CUI Global Inc (NASDAQ:OEG) which lost 25.14% to settle at 1.370 and Kaixin Auto Holdings (NASDAQ:KXIN) which was down 24.55% to 7.160 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 2316 to 656 and 58 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1950 rose and 904 declined, while 60 ended unchanged.
Shares in Mosaic Co (NYSE:MOS) rose to 52-week highs; gaining 11.44% or 2.35 to 22.89. Shares in Advaxis Inc (NASDAQ:ADXS) fell to 52-week lows; down 29.42% or 0.115 to 0.276. Shares in Fuel Tech Inc (NASDAQ:FTEK) rose to 5-year highs; gaining 87.23% or 2.4600 to 5.2800.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 3.97% to 21.76 a new 3-months low.
Gold Futures for December delivery was down 1.87% or 34.35 to $1803.45 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 4.13% or 1.78 to hit $44.84 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 3.76% or 1.73 to trade at $47.77 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.38% to 1.1885, while USD/JPY fell 0.01% to 104.53.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.33% at 92.190.
