At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.68%, while the S&P 500 index gained 1.32%, and the NASDAQ Composite index gained 1.88%.
The best performers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Salesforce.com Inc (NYSE:CRM), which rose 4.41% or 12.53 points to trade at 296.74 at the close. Meanwhile, UnitedHealth Group Incorporated (NYSE:UNH) added 2.75% or 12.09 points to end at 452.00 and Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) was up 2.50% or 1.22 points to 50.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Merck & Company Inc (NYSE:MRK), which fell 5.39% or 4.27 points to trade at 74.89 at the close. Walmart Inc (NYSE:WMT) declined 1.57% or 2.27 points to end at 142.63 and Caterpillar Inc (NYSE:CAT) was down 1.41% or 2.81 points to 195.92.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Lam Research Corp (NASDAQ:LRCX) which rose 6.01% to 680.54, NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) which was up 5.95% to settle at 333.76 and Applied Materials Inc (NASDAQ:AMAT) which gained 5.53% to close at 151.22.
The worst performers were Merck & Company Inc (NYSE:MRK) which was down 5.39% to 74.89 in late trade, Bristol-Myers Squibb Company (NYSE:BMY) which lost 3.34% to settle at 54.64 and Best Buy Co Inc (NYSE:BBY) which was down 3.33% to 110.95 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Krystal Biotech Inc (NASDAQ:KRYS) which rose 121.65% to 88.24, Petros Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:PTPI) which was up 91.39% to settle at 4.000 and Adagio Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:ADGI) which gained 86.43% to close at 46.83.
The worst performers were Fennec Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:FENC) which was down 50.41% to 4.780 in late trade, Mink Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:INKT) which lost 33.63% to settle at 13.28 and Vaxxinity Inc (NASDAQ:VAXX) which was down 25.79% to 13.70 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 1741 to 1519 and 120 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2288 fell and 1473 advanced, while 164 ended unchanged.
Shares in Lam Research Corp (NASDAQ:LRCX) rose to all time highs; up 6.01% or 38.56 to 680.54. Shares in NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) rose to all time highs; up 5.95% or 18.73 to 333.76. Shares in Bristol-Myers Squibb Company (NYSE:BMY) fell to 52-week lows; falling 3.34% or 1.89 to 54.64. Shares in Krystal Biotech Inc (NASDAQ:KRYS) rose to all time highs; rising 121.65% or 48.43 to 88.24. Shares in Fennec Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:FENC) fell to 52-week lows; down 50.41% or 4.860 to 4.780.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 19.88% to 22.93.
Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.11% or 1.90 to $1786.20 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 2.80% or 1.91 to hit $70.06 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 0.07% or 0.05 to trade at $73.08 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.00% to 1.1291, while USD/JPY rose 0.04% to 113.57.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.07% at 96.172.
