Investing.com – U.S. stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the , and sectors led shares higher.

At the close in NYSE, the added 0.30% to hit a new all time high, while the index climbed 0.33%, and the index climbed 0.67%.

The best performers of the session on the were Boeing Co (NYSE:), which rose 3.60% or 11.88 points to trade at 341.43 at the close. Meanwhile, Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:) added 2.07% or 3.73 points to end at 183.63 and Apple Inc (NASDAQ:) was up 1.17% or 3.76 points to 325.21 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Exxon Mobil Corp (NYSE:), which fell 1.35% or 0.85 points to trade at 61.88 at the close. UnitedHealth Group Incorporated (NYSE:) declined 1.11% or 3.27 points to end at 292.46 and Goldman Sachs Group Inc (NYSE:) was down 1.02% or 2.48 points to 241.82.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were Twitter Inc (NYSE:) which rose 15.03% to 38.41, Cardinal Health Inc (NYSE:) which was up 10.59% to settle at 58.26 and Cognizant Technology Solutions Corp Class A (NASDAQ:) which gained 9.93% to close at 71.42.

The worst performers were Becton Dickinson and Company (NYSE:) which was down 11.80% to 252.25 in late trade, Kellogg Company (NYSE:) which lost 8.51% to settle at 63.46 and Capri Holdings Ltd (NYSE:) which was down 5.91% to 31.34 at the close.

The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Yield10 Bioscience Inc (NASDAQ:) which rose 56.48% to 10.50, Janone Inc (NASDAQ:) which was up 31.63% to settle at 4.120 and Kezar Life Sciences Inc (NASDAQ:) which gained 28.17% to close at 3.85.

The worst performers were Tonix Pharmaceuticals Holding Corp (NASDAQ:) which was down 48.82% to 0.870 in late trade, Rewalk Robotics Ltd (NASDAQ:) which lost 41.69% to settle at 0.860 and Funko Inc (NASDAQ:) which was down 40.03% to 9.29 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 1476 to 1302 and 100 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1477 fell and 1146 advanced, while 88 ended unchanged.

Shares in Cardinal Health Inc (NYSE:) rose to 52-week highs; gaining 10.59% or 5.58 to 58.26. Shares in Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:) rose to all time highs; up 2.07% or 3.73 to 183.63. Shares in Apple Inc (NASDAQ:) rose to all time highs; up 1.17% or 3.76 to 325.21. Shares in Rewalk Robotics Ltd (NASDAQ:) fell to all time lows; losing 41.69% or 0.615 to 0.860. Shares in Funko Inc (NASDAQ:) fell to 52-week lows; falling 40.03% or 6.20 to 9.29.

The , which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 1.25% to 14.96.

Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.47% or 7.40 to $1570.20 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 0.67% or 0.34 to hit $51.09 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 0.02% or 0.01 to trade at $55.14 a barrel.

EUR/USD was up 0.01% to 1.0981, while USD/JPY rose 0.01% to 110.00.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.20% at 98.357.
