Talk-radio legend Don Imus died this morning, according to his family.

Imus, 79, died after being hospitalized in College Station, Texas, on Christmas Eve, according to the family’s statement.

He hosted the popular radio show “Imus in the Morning” for a half-century before retiring in March of 2018.

Imus, born on July 23, 1940, in Riverside, Calif., is survived by two sons, four daughters and his wife of 25 years, author and health advocate Deirdre Coleman Imus.

“Shocking news on the passing of my friend, Don Imus. He will long be remembered as one of the true giants in the history of radio. My thoughts and prayers to Deirdre and Wyatt. God speed,” said fellow radio host Mike Francesa, in a tweet.
