Retirement Hacks: Medicare’s website is changing. Check it out before open enrollment starts Oct. 15

A month ahead of Medicare open enrollment, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services is launching a redesigned website — a central spot for questions, answers and help with the insurance programs it provides.

Retirement Tip of the Week: If you’re already enrolled in Medicare, or enrolling soon, get acquainted with the new search feature, and plan ahead for open enrollment on Oct. 15.

The redesign, launching this week, offers an updated homepage and search engine. The main page spotlights the Inflation Reduction Act, legislation passed last year that includes provisions focused on Medicare, such as affordable insulin and capped out-of-pocket drug costs.

The updated site will also highlight many of the center’s resources, including codes for claim reimbursement, manuals and forms, as well as a “streamlined” navigation menu.

Medicare beneficiaries can use the site to become familiar with what the agency offers, as well as how to maximize their health plans. Open enrollment for Medicare begins Oct. 15 and lasts until Dec. 7, at which point beneficiaries can make changes to their insurance for the following year. Consumers can also use the newly redesigned site to understand options on the marketplace and with private insurance, or to learn more about legislation, such as the Inflation Reduction Act and No Surprises Act.
