One of Elon Musk’s top lieutenants has come under scrutiny in an internal investigation for the purchase of hard-to-get construction materials.

According to a Bloomberg report, Omead Afshar, one of Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) CEO Elon Musk’s top lieutenants, who was overseeing the construction and then production at the plant in Austin, Texas, is under scrutiny in an internal investigation for his role in a plan to purchase hard-to-get construction materials, which are identified as suspicious.

According to people familiar with the matter, Tesla has already fired some employees in relation to the investigation, and plans to part ways with Afshar, probably through a leave of absence initially. Neither Afshar nor Tesla/Musk responded to requests for comment.

The internal investigation, led by Tesla Acting Head of Legal David Searle, tries to determine whether a special kind of glass was to be used by Elon Musk for personal use. Given global supply chain disruptions, the glass is difficult to secure, but the company’s status makes it easier for it to acquire materials in high demand. According to people familiar with the matter, Afshar had requested the purchase order of glass be created and told the workers it was for a secret project.
