Japan stocks lower at close of trade; Nikkei 225 down 1.59%

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 declined 1.59%.

The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were CyberAgent Inc (TYO:4751), which rose 3.95% or 49.00 points to trade at 1,288.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Kao Corp. (TYO:4452) added 1.94% or 106.00 points to end at 5,565.00 and Shiseido Co., Ltd. (TYO:4911) was up 1.16% or 70.00 points to 6,104.00 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Mitsubishi Motors Corp. (TYO:7211), which fell 5.91% or 37.00 points to trade at 589.00 at the close. NTN Corp. (TYO:6472) declined 5.61% or 16.00 points to end at 269.00 and JGC Corp. (TYO:1963) was down 4.27% or 81.00 points to 1,815.00.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2886 to 718 and 212 ended unchanged.

The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 0.48% to 18.84.

Crude oil for January delivery was down 0.10% or 0.08 to $81.14 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in February rose 0.13% or 0.11 to hit $86.99 a barrel, while the February Gold Futures contract fell 0.05% or 0.95 to trade at $1,814.25 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was down 0.40% to 134.73, while EUR/JPY fell 0.34% to 141.88.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.11% at 104.57.
