Japan stocks lower at close of trade; Nikkei 225 down 1.21%

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 fell 1.21% to hit a new 1-month low.

The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Nippon Sheet Glass Co., Ltd. (TYO:5202), which rose 10.55% or 78.00 points to trade at 817.00 at the close. Meanwhile, NGK Insulators, Ltd. (TYO:5333) added 9.96% or 178.50 points to end at 1,970.00 and Fujikura Ltd. (TYO:5803) was up 5.71% or 65.50 points to 1,212.00 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding (TYO:7003), which fell 8.32% or 45.00 points to trade at 496.00 at the close. Credit Saison Co., Ltd. (TYO:8253) declined 6.06% or 138.00 points to end at 2,141.00 and Pacific Metals Co., Ltd. (TYO:5541) was down 5.03% or 79.00 points to 1,493.00.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2304 to 1378 and 194 ended unchanged.

Shares in Nippon Sheet Glass Co., Ltd. (TYO:5202) rose to 3-years highs; up 10.55% or 78.00 to 817.00. Shares in Pacific Metals Co., Ltd. (TYO:5541) fell to 3-years lows; falling 5.03% or 79.00 to 1,493.00.

The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 3.99% to 19.23.

Crude oil for September delivery was down 0.85% or 0.71 to $82.48 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in October fell 0.75% or 0.65 to hit $86.16 a barrel, while the December Gold Futures contract fell 0.07% or 1.45 to trade at $1,945.15 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was down 0.08% to 144.85, while EUR/JPY fell 0.06% to 158.56.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.05% at 102.74.
