Japan stocks lower at close of trade; Nikkei 225 down 0.65%

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 lost 0.65%.

The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Mitsubishi Materials Corp. (TYO:5711), which rose 7.91% or 159.00 points to trade at 2,169.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Mazda Motor Corp (TYO:7261) added 7.38% or 86.00 points to end at 1,251.00 and Yokohama Rubber Co Ltd (TYO:5101) was up 7.21% or 141.00 points to 2,096.00 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Daiwa House Industry Co., Ltd. (TYO:1925), which fell 4.36% or 139.00 points to trade at 3,051.00 at the close. Fujitsu Ltd. (TYO:6702) declined 3.79% or 675.00 points to end at 17,150.00 and Advantest Corp. (TYO:6857) was down 3.56% or 300.00 points to 8,120.00.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2016 to 1496 and 263 ended unchanged.

Shares in Mazda Motor Corp (TYO:7261) rose to 3-years highs; up 7.38% or 86.00 to 1,251.00.

The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 4.37% to 19.11.

Crude oil for September delivery was down 0.86% or 0.78 to $89.72 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in October fell 0.72% or 0.69 to hit $95.62 a barrel, while the December Gold Futures contract fell 0.32% or 5.75 to trade at $1,806.55 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was down 0.09% to 135.01, while EUR/JPY fell 0.09% to 137.85.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.08% at 106.17.
