Japan stocks lower at close of trade; Nikkei 225 down 0.40%

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 lost 0.40%.

The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Softbank Group Corp. (TYO:9984), which rose 2.15% or 128.00 points to trade at 6,095.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Daiichi Sankyo Co., Ltd. (TYO:4568) added 1.75% or 76.00 points to end at 4,416.00 and Nippon Yusen K.K (TYO:9101) was up 1.45% or 43.50 points to 3,035.00 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Konami Corp. (TYO:9766), which fell 2.70% or 170.00 points to trade at 6,120.00 at the close. Minebea Mitsumi Inc (TYO:6479) declined 2.28% or 50.00 points to end at 2,142.00 and Taiyo Yuden Co., Ltd. (TYO:6976) was down 2.08% or 90.00 points to 4,235.00.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2183 to 1294 and 322 ended unchanged.

The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 16.81% to 18.66.

Crude oil for January delivery was up 1.33% or 0.96 to $72.97 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in February rose 1.23% or 0.95 to hit $78.12 a barrel, while the February Gold Futures contract fell 0.02% or 0.35 to trade at $1,797.65 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was up 0.11% to 136.74, while EUR/JPY rose 0.31% to 143.95.

The US Dollar Index Futures was unchanged 0.00% at 105.06.
