Japan stocks lower at close of trade; Nikkei 225 down 0.21%

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 lost 0.21%.

The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Yokohama Rubber Co Ltd (TYO:5101), which rose 5.41% or 132.00 points to trade at 2,573.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Nippon Paper Industries Co., Ltd. (TYO:3863) added 4.97% or 50.00 points to end at 1,057.00 and Nippon Sheet Glass Co., Ltd. (TYO:5202) was up 4.74% or 33.00 points to 729.00 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were J.Front Retailing Co., Ltd. (TYO:3086), which fell 2.88% or 37.00 points to trade at 1,247.00 at the close. Takashimaya Co., Ltd. (TYO:8233) declined 2.57% or 49.00 points to end at 1,855.00 and Yaskawa Electric Corp. (TYO:6506) was down 2.52% or 130.00 points to 5,020.00.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1966 to 1589 and 271 ended unchanged.

Shares in Yokohama Rubber Co Ltd (TYO:5101) rose to 3-years highs; up 5.41% or 132.00 to 2,573.00. Shares in Nippon Sheet Glass Co., Ltd. (TYO:5202) rose to 52-week highs; up 4.74% or 33.00 to 729.00.

The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 4.69% to 15.40.

Crude oil for April delivery was down 0.85% or 0.66 to $76.75 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in April fell 0.90% or 0.76 to hit $83.31 a barrel, while the April Gold Futures contract fell 0.31% or 5.75 to trade at $1,844.55 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was up 0.31% to 134.65, while EUR/JPY rose 0.15% to 143.60.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.23% at 104.04.
