Japan stocks lower at close of trade; Nikkei 225 down 0.11%

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 fell 0.11%.

The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Tokai Carbon Co., Ltd. (TYO:5301), which rose 4.60% or 59.00 points to trade at 1,341.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Kobe Steel, Ltd. (TYO:5406) added 4.03% or 36.00 points to end at 929.00 and SKY Perfect JSAT Holdings Inc. (TYO:9412) was up 3.92% or 20.00 points to 530.00 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Trend Micro Inc. (TYO:4704), which fell 2.95% or 190.00 points to trade at 6,250.00 at the close. Konami Corp. (TYO:9766) declined 2.91% or 180.00 points to end at 6,000.00 and Ajinomoto Co., Inc. (TYO:2802) was down 2.80% or 116.00 points to 4,020.00.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2233 to 1375 and 240 ended unchanged.

Shares in Tokai Carbon Co., Ltd. (TYO:5301) rose to 52-week highs; up 4.60% or 59.00 to 1,341.00. Shares in Kobe Steel, Ltd. (TYO:5406) rose to 3-years highs; rising 4.03% or 36.00 to 929.00.

The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 5.20% to 16.59.

Crude oil for April delivery was down 0.41% or 0.31 to $76.01 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in May fell 0.48% or 0.40 to hit $82.42 a barrel, while the April Gold Futures contract fell 0.07% or 1.20 to trade at $1,815.90 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was down 0.15% to 136.26, while EUR/JPY fell 0.14% to 143.71.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.01% at 105.17.
