Japan stocks lower at close of trade; Nikkei 225 down 0.05%

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 declined 0.05%.

The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Advantest Corp. (TYO:6857), which rose 4.11% or 310.00 points to trade at 7,850.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Fuji Electric Co., Ltd. (TYO:6504) added 3.83% or 220.00 points to end at 5,970.00 and Z Holdings Corp (TYO:4689) was up 3.55% or 16.10 points to 469.10 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were NEC Corp. (TYO:6701), which fell 7.47% or 395.00 points to trade at 4,895.00 at the close. Hino Motors, Ltd. (TYO:7205) declined 6.53% or 48.00 points to end at 687.00 and Mitsubishi Motors Corp. (TYO:7211) was down 5.74% or 28.00 points to 460.00.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2230 to 1257 and 288 ended unchanged.

The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 3.85% to 19.48 a new 1-month low.

Crude oil for September delivery was up 1.46% or 1.41 to $97.83 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in October rose 1.31% or 1.33 to hit $103.16 a barrel, while the August Gold Futures contract rose 0.75% or 13.20 to trade at $1,763.50 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was down 1.11% to 132.79, while EUR/JPY fell 0.64% to 135.98.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.67% at 105.52.
