Japan stocks higher at close of trade; Nikkei 225 up 2.62%

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 added 2.62% to hit a new 6-months high.

The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were DOWA Holdings Co., Ltd. (TYO:5714), which rose 8.88% or 425.00 points to trade at 5,210.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Nippon Express Co., Ltd. (TYO:9147) added 8.15% or 620.00 points to end at 8,230.00 and Rakuten Inc (TYO:4755) was up 7.90% or 53.00 points to 724.00 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Oki Electric Industry Co., Ltd. (TYO:6703), which fell 5.51% or 44.00 points to trade at 754.00 at the close. DeNA Co Ltd (TYO:2432) declined 3.88% or 74.00 points to end at 1,834.00 and Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. (TYO:7012) was down 2.72% or 74.00 points to 2,648.00.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2826 to 761 and 212 ended unchanged.

The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 5.60% to 20.18.

Crude oil for September delivery was up 0.05% or 0.05 to $94.39 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in October rose 0.24% or 0.24 to hit $99.84 a barrel, while the December Gold Futures contract fell 0.08% or 1.40 to trade at $1,805.80 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was up 0.28% to 133.38, while EUR/JPY rose 0.15% to 137.42.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.14% at 105.14.
