Japan stocks higher at close of trade; Nikkei 225 up 1.92%

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 added 1.92%.

The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Inpex Corp. (T:1605), which rose 6.77% or 69.0 points to trade at 1088.0 at the close. Meanwhile, Softbank Group Corp. (T:9984) added 6.03% or 323.0 points to end at 5683.0 and SUMCO Corp. (T:3436) was up 5.33% or 122.0 points to 2410.0 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Eisai Co., Ltd. (T:4523), which fell 2.60% or 170.0 points to trade at 6378.0 at the close. Tokyo Gas Co., Ltd. (T:9531) declined 1.52% or 33.0 points to end at 2133.0 and Shinsei Bank, Ltd. (T:8303) was down 1.46% or 31.0 points to 2087.0.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 3010 to 646 and 143 ended unchanged.

Shares in Inpex Corp. (T:1605) rose to 52-week highs; rising 6.77% or 69.0 to 1088.0. Shares in Eisai Co., Ltd. (T:4523) fell to 52-week lows; falling 2.60% or 170.0 to 6378.0.

The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was unchanged 0% to 21.30.

Crude oil for February delivery was up 0.27% or 0.22 to $81.44 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in March rose 0.11% or 0.09 to hit $83.81 a barrel, while the February Gold Futures contract fell 0.07% or 1.25 to trade at $1817.25 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was up 0.09% to 115.39, while EUR/JPY rose 0.04% to 131.08.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.03% at 95.657.
