Japan stocks higher at close of trade; Nikkei 225 up 1.78%

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 added 1.78%.

The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Denso Corp. (T:6902), which rose 6.61% or 444.0 points to trade at 7165.0 at the close. Meanwhile, Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (T:9107) added 6.32% or 285.0 points to end at 4795.0 and Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (T:9104) was up 5.42% or 350.0 points to 6810.0 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Kobe Steel, Ltd. (T:5406), which fell 1.71% or 11.0 points to trade at 634.0 at the close. Sumitomo Osaka Cement Co., Ltd. (T:5232) declined 1.55% or 46.0 points to end at 2931.0 and Taisei Corp. (T:1801) was down 1.54% or 55.0 points to 3510.0.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2934 to 639 and 165 ended unchanged.

Shares in Sumitomo Osaka Cement Co., Ltd. (T:5232) fell to 5-year lows; losing 1.55% or 46.0 to 2931.0.

The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was unchanged 0% to 21.51.

Crude oil for October delivery was up 1.93% or 1.20 to $63.34 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in November rose 2.02% or 1.31 to hit $66.06 a barrel, while the December Gold Futures contract rose 0.22% or 3.90 to trade at $1787.90 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was up 0.09% to 109.89, while EUR/JPY rose 0.28% to 128.73.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.16% at 93.355.
