Japan stocks higher at close of trade; Nikkei 225 up 1.78%

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 1.78% to hit a new 1-month high.

The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Alps Electric Co., Ltd. (TYO:6770), which rose 15.52% or 172.00 points to trade at 1,280.00 at the close. Meanwhile, JTEKT Corp. (TYO:6473) added 10.88% or 103.00 points to end at 1,050.00 and Toyota Tsusho Corp. (TYO:8015) was up 8.11% or 375.00 points to 5,000.00 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Pacific Metals Co., Ltd. (TYO:5541), which fell 8.53% or 172.00 points to trade at 1,845.00 at the close. NGK Insulators, Ltd. (TYO:5333) declined 6.71% or 125.00 points to end at 1,737.00 and TOTO Ltd. (TYO:5332) was down 5.03% or 225.00 points to 4,250.00.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2495 to 1046 and 248 ended unchanged.

Shares in Pacific Metals Co., Ltd. (TYO:5541) fell to 52-week lows; losing 8.53% or 172.00 to 1,845.00.

The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 2.02% to 23.70.

Crude oil for December delivery was down 0.71% or 0.62 to $87.28 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in January fell 0.69% or 0.65 to hit $93.12 a barrel, while the December Gold Futures contract fell 0.03% or 0.55 to trade at $1,644.25 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was up 0.34% to 147.96, while EUR/JPY rose 0.12% to 147.08.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.18% at 110.81.
