Japan stocks higher at close of trade; Nikkei 225 up 1.77%

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 1.77% to hit a new 1-month high.

The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (T:9107), which rose 10.98% or 760.0 points to trade at 7680.0 at the close. Meanwhile, Hino Motors, Ltd. (T:7205) added 6.65% or 63.0 points to end at 1011.0 and Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (T:9104) was up 6.56% or 560.0 points to 9100.0 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Oji Holdings Corp. (T:3861), which fell 0.90% or 5.0 points to trade at 552.0 at the close. AGC Inc (T:5201) declined 0.73% or 40.0 points to end at 5450.0 and Fast Retailing Co., Ltd. (T:9983) was down 0.72% or 470.0 points to 64840.0.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2515 to 1120 and 183 ended unchanged.

Shares in Fast Retailing Co., Ltd. (T:9983) fell to 52-week lows; falling 0.72% or 470.0 to 64840.0.

The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was unchanged 0% to 19.21.

Crude oil for February delivery was down 0.30% or 0.23 to $75.85 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in March fell 0.25% or 0.20 to hit $78.78 a barrel, while the February Gold Futures contract rose 0.36% or 6.45 to trade at $1806.55 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was up 0.33% to 115.69, while EUR/JPY rose 0.24% to 130.55.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.12% at 96.330.
