Japan stocks higher at close of trade; Nikkei 225 up 1.23%

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 added 1.23%.

The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Yaskawa Electric Corp. (TYO:6506), which rose 4.14% or 185.00 points to trade at 4,655.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Taiyo Yuden Co., Ltd. (TYO:6976) added 4.11% or 170.00 points to end at 4,305.00 and Mazda Motor Corp (TYO:7261) was up 3.93% or 37.00 points to 979.00 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Chiba Bank Ltd (TYO:8331), which fell 3.41% or 34.00 points to trade at 964.00 at the close. Concordia Financial Group Ltd (TYO:7186) declined 2.56% or 15.00 points to end at 571.00 and Shizuoka Financial Group Inc (TYO:5831) was down 2.37% or 26.00 points to 1,071.00.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2378 to 1110 and 298 ended unchanged.

The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 6.40% to 19.77.

Crude oil for March delivery was down 0.94% or 0.75 to $79.36 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in March fell 0.01% or 0.01 to hit $84.45 a barrel, while the February Gold Futures contract fell 0.58% or 11.20 to trade at $1,910.50 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was up 0.32% to 128.96, while EUR/JPY rose 0.34% to 139.50.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.26% at 102.21.
