Japan stocks higher at close of trade; Nikkei 225 up 1.00%

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 rose 1.00%.

The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (T:9107), which rose 12.87% or 700.0 points to trade at 6140.0 at the close. Meanwhile, IHI Corp. (T:7013) added 6.03% or 129.0 points to end at 2269.0 and Dentsu Inc. (T:4324) was up 5.63% or 200.0 points to 3750.0 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Fujifilm Holdings Corp. (T:4901), which fell 1.51% or 135.0 points to trade at 8794.0 at the close. Hitachi Zosen Corp. (T:7004) declined 0.92% or 8.0 points to end at 859.0 and Shionogi & Co., Ltd. (T:4507) was down 0.78% or 60.0 points to 7599.0.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 3132 to 498 and 139 ended unchanged.

The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was unchanged 0% to 24.94.

Crude oil for January delivery was up 2.14% or 1.42 to $67.92 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in February rose 2.04% or 1.42 to hit $71.09 a barrel, while the February Gold Futures contract rose 0.49% or 8.70 to trade at $1771.40 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was up 0.16% to 113.33, while EUR/JPY rose 0.04% to 127.89.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.13% at 96.285.
