Japan stocks higher at close of trade; Nikkei 225 up 0.97%

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 0.97%.

The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Nippon Light Metal Holdings Co. (TYO:5703), which rose 5.98% or 96.00 points to trade at 1,701.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Alps Electric Co., Ltd. (TYO:6770) added 4.41% or 53.50 points to end at 1,267.50 and Tokyo Tatemono Co., Ltd. (TYO:8804) was up 4.22% or 84.50 points to 2,085.50 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were IHI Corp. (TYO:7013), which fell 15.81% or 598.00 points to trade at 3,185.00 at the close. Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. (TYO:7012) declined 5.89% or 238.00 points to end at 3,800.00 and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (TYO:7011) was down 4.05% or 356.00 points to 8,425.00.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2456 to 1136 and 260 ended unchanged.

Shares in Nippon Light Metal Holdings Co. (TYO:5703) rose to 52-week highs; up 5.98% or 96.00 to 1,701.00.

The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 1.97% to 16.90.

Crude oil for October delivery was up 0.29% or 0.25 to $87.54 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in November rose 0.19% or 0.17 to hit $90.81 a barrel, while the December Gold Futures contract fell 0.26% or 5.15 to trade at $1,942.05 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was up 0.19% to 146.86, while EUR/JPY fell 0.06% to 157.50.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.18% at 104.37.
