Japan stocks higher at close of trade; Nikkei 225 up 0.74%

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 added 0.74%.

The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Shimizu Corp. (T:1803), which rose 4.29% or 31.0 points to trade at 754.0 at the close. Meanwhile, NH Foods Ltd (T:2282) added 3.59% or 155.0 points to end at 4470.0 and Taisei Corp. (T:1801) was up 3.22% or 115.0 points to 3690.0 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Toho Zinc Co., Ltd. (T:5707), which fell 4.50% or 115.0 points to trade at 2441.0 at the close. Yamato Holdings Co., Ltd. (T:9064) declined 2.83% or 71.0 points to end at 2435.0 and Hitachi Ltd (T:6501) was down 2.59% or 178.0 points to 6683.0.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2108 to 1455 and 236 ended unchanged.

Shares in Yamato Holdings Co., Ltd. (T:9064) fell to 52-week lows; losing 2.83% or 71.0 to 2435.0.

The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was unchanged 0% to 21.90.

Crude oil for March delivery was up 0.65% or 0.54 to $83.84 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in March rose 0.56% or 0.48 to hit $86.54 a barrel, while the February Gold Futures contract rose 0.26% or 4.75 to trade at $1821.25 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was up 0.25% to 114.48, while EUR/JPY rose 0.35% to 130.80.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.05% at 95.110.
