Japan stocks higher at close of trade; Nikkei 225 up 0.59%

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 rose 0.59%.

The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (TYO:9107), which rose 4.40% or 113.00 points to trade at 2,682.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Taiyo Yuden Co., Ltd. (TYO:6976) added 4.36% or 170.00 points to end at 4,065.00 and Sumitomo Metal Mining Co., Ltd. (TYO:5713) was up 3.60% or 164.00 points to 4,721.00 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were CyberAgent Inc (TYO:4751), which fell 2.61% or 31.00 points to trade at 1,159.00 at the close. Mitsubishi Estate Co Ltd (TYO:8802) declined 2.16% or 36.50 points to end at 1,656.00 and Tokio Marine Holdings, Inc. (TYO:8766) was down 2.00% or 55.50 points to 2,716.50.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2101 to 1409 and 303 ended unchanged.

The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 6.24% to 18.93.

Crude oil for February delivery was up 0.33% or 0.24 to $73.91 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in March rose 0.23% or 0.18 to hit $78.87 a barrel, while the February Gold Futures contract rose 0.11% or 2.00 to trade at $1,842.60 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was up 0.56% to 134.15, while EUR/JPY rose 0.55% to 141.11.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.19% at 105.03.
