Japan stocks higher at close of trade; Nikkei 225 up 0.57%

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 added 0.57%.

The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (TYO:9107), which rose 3.85% or 125.00 points to trade at 3,370.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Kobe Steel, Ltd. (TYO:5406) added 3.58% or 36.00 points to end at 1,041.00 and Komatsu Ltd. (TYO:6301) was up 3.30% or 104.00 points to 3,251.00 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Olympus Corp. (TYO:7733), which fell 1.16% or 29.00 points to trade at 2,469.50 at the close. Sumitomo Dainippon Pharma Co Ltd (TYO:4506) declined 1.05% or 9.00 points to end at 845.00 and Toho Zinc Co., Ltd. (TYO:5707) was down 1.05% or 20.00 points to 1,881.00.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2306 to 1242 and 267 ended unchanged.

Shares in Toho Zinc Co., Ltd. (TYO:5707) fell to 52-week lows; falling 1.05% or 20.00 to 1,881.00.

The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 0.92% to 17.14.

Crude oil for May delivery was up 0.23% or 0.19 to $81.72 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in June rose 0.29% or 0.25 to hit $85.86 a barrel, while the June Gold Futures contract rose 0.44% or 8.95 to trade at $2,027.95 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was up 0.06% to 133.74, while EUR/JPY rose 0.14% to 146.05.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.11% at 101.78.
