Japan stocks higher at close of trade; Nikkei 225 up 0.27%

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 added 0.27%.

The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Meiji Holdings Co., Ltd. (TYO:2269), which rose 10.41% or 344.00 points to trade at 3,650.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Comsys Holdings Corp. (TYO:1721) added 9.00% or 255.50 points to end at 3,093.00 and Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (TYO:9107) was up 5.82% or 266.00 points to 4,838.00 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Nisshinbo Holdings Inc. (TYO:3105), which fell 8.24% or 97.00 points to trade at 1,080.00 at the close. Advantest Corp. (TYO:6857) declined 4.21% or 785.00 points to end at 17,855.00 and Z Holdings Corp (TYO:4689) was down 4.09% or 18.00 points to 422.00.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1853 to 1713 and 275 ended unchanged.

(TYO:1721) rose to 52-week highs; gaining 9.00% or 255.50 to 3,093.00. Shares in Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (TYO:9107) rose to 5-year highs; gaining 5.82% or 266.00 to 4,838.00.

The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 2.35% to 20.37.

Crude oil for September delivery was down 0.73% or 0.60 to $81.34 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in October fell 0.75% or 0.64 to hit $84.70 a barrel, while the December Gold Futures contract fell 0.19% or 3.75 to trade at $1,966.25 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was up 0.42% to 143.10, while EUR/JPY rose 0.20% to 157.08.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.32% at 102.19.
