Japan stocks higher at close of trade; Nikkei 225 up 0.16%

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 0.16%.

The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Takashimaya Co., Ltd. (TYO:8233), which rose 7.14% or 122.00 points to trade at 1,830.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Isetan Mitsukoshi Holdings Ltd. (TYO:3099) added 7.01% or 97.00 points to end at 1,481.00 and Shiseido Co., Ltd. (TYO:4911) was up 6.12% or 374.00 points to 6,488.00 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Hino Motors, Ltd. (TYO:7205), which fell 2.13% or 11.00 points to trade at 505.00 at the close. Yokogawa Electric Corp. (TYO:6841) declined 1.96% or 43.00 points to end at 2,151.00 and Tokyo Electric Power Co., Inc. (TYO:9501) was down 1.83% or 9.00 points to 483.00.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2438 to 1131 and 267 ended unchanged.

Shares in Isetan Mitsukoshi Holdings Ltd. (TYO:3099) rose to 5-year highs; gaining 7.01% or 97.00 to 1,481.00.

The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 4.21% to 19.35.

Crude oil for February delivery was up 0.40% or 0.32 to $79.88 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in March rose 0.34% or 0.29 to hit $84.79 a barrel, while the February Gold Futures contract rose 0.60% or 10.75 to trade at $1,814.95 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was down 0.00% to 132.85, while EUR/JPY rose 0.26% to 141.66.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.37% at 103.62.
