Italy's Di Maio says 5-Star doesn't want new legal shield for ArcelorMittal

ROME (Reuters) – The head of Italy’s ruling 5-Star Movement said on Friday his party did not think a legal shield for steel giant ArcelorMittal should be reinstated and warned of “serious problems” for the coalition if anyone tried to revive the contested immunity.

ArcelorMittal said this week it was withdrawing from a deal to buy Italy’s Ilva, blaming its decision on a government move to scrap previous guarantees of legal immunity during a massive clean-up operation at Ilva’s huge Taranto plant.

Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte has said the immunity could be revived to save the accord, but 5-Star leader Luigi Di Maio warned against any such move.
