India stocks mixed at close of trade; Nifty 50 down 0.03%

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 0.03%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index climbed 0.38%.

The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were ITC Ltd (NS:ITC), which rose 4.76% or 17.20 points to trade at 378.60 at the close. Meanwhile, Britannia Industries Ltd (NS:BRIT) added 4.62% or 202.10 points to end at 4,573.05 and IndusInd Bank Ltd. (NS:INBK) was up 3.27% or 34.05 points to 1,075.90 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Adani Enterprises Ltd (NS:ADEL), which fell 26.70% or 570.10 points to trade at 1,565.25 at the close. Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (NS:APSE) declined 6.60% or 32.70 points to end at 462.45 and UPL Ltd (NS:UPLL) was down 6.16% or 45.75 points to 696.40.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which rose 4.74% to 378.60, IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which was up 3.25% to settle at 1,075.40 and Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which gained 2.46% to close at 2,634.30.

The worst performers were NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which was down 1.97% to 166.65 in late trade, Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (BO:HDFC) which lost 1.85% to settle at 2,612.80 and Titan Company Ltd (BO:TITN) which was down 1.80% to 2,304.95 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1023 to 894 and 60 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1784 fell and 1585 advanced, while 123 ended unchanged.

Shares in ITC Ltd (NS:ITC) rose to all time highs; up 4.76% or 17.20 to 378.60. Shares in Britannia Industries Ltd (NS:BRIT) rose to all time highs; up 4.62% or 202.10 to 4,573.05. Shares in Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (NS:APSE) fell to 52-week lows; down 6.60% or 32.70 to 462.45. Shares in ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) rose to all time highs; rising 4.74% or 17.15 to 378.60.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 6.24% to 15.73.

Gold Futures for April delivery was up 1.46% or 28.40 to $1,971.20 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 0.25% or 0.19 to hit $76.60 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 0.06% or 0.05 to trade at $82.89 a barrel.

USD/INR was up 0.59% to 82.21, while EUR/INR rose 0.59% to 90.34.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.03% at 101.00.
