India stocks lower at close of trade; Nifty 50 down 0.77%

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 0.77% to hit a new 3-months low, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 0.69%.

The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Cipla Ltd. (NS:CIPL), which rose 0.94% or 8.15 points to trade at 877.25 at the close. Meanwhile, Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (NS:KTKM) added 0.74% or 12.45 points to end at 1,692.15 and Infosys Ltd (NS:INFY) was up 0.44% or 6.10 points to 1,380.65 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Bajaj Finserv Ltd (NS:BJFS), which fell 3.83% or 49.35 points to trade at 1,240.65 at the close. Bajaj Finance Ltd (NS:BJFN) declined 3.15% or 183.80 points to end at 5,649.25 and Adani Enterprises Ltd (NS:ADEL) was down 2.97% or 53.35 points to 1,740.65.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (BO:KTKM) which rose 0.74% to 1,691.55, Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which was up 0.43% to settle at 1,380.45 and Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (BO:REDY) which gained 0.33% to close at 4,462.75.

The worst performers were Bajaj Finserv Ltd (BO:BJFS) which was down 3.81% to 1,241.05 in late trade, Bajaj Finance Ltd (BO:BJFN) which lost 3.19% to settle at 5,650.65 and Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which was down 2.58% to 102.15 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1540 to 399 and 47 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2360 fell and 1006 advanced, while 136 ended unchanged.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 5.18% to 15.24.

Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.12% or 2.40 to $1,998.30 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 3.40% or 2.38 to hit $67.58 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 3.15% or 2.39 to trade at $73.52 a barrel.

USD/INR was up 0.26% to 82.45, while EUR/INR fell 0.62% to 88.51.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.63% at 102.86.
