India stocks lower at close of trade; Nifty 50 down 0.53%

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 0.53%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 0.55%.

The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Tata Steel Ltd (NS:TISC), which rose 2.63% or 24.65 points to trade at 960.70 at the close. Meanwhile, IndusInd Bank Ltd. (NS:INBK) added 2.08% or 19.60 points to end at 962.05 and Coal India Ltd (NS:COAL) was up 1.93% or 3.80 points to 200.90 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NS:MAHM), which fell 3.83% or 45.25 points to trade at 1,135.85 at the close. Reliance Industries Ltd (NS:RELI) declined 3.30% or 82.70 points to end at 2,420.40 and Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (NS:MRTI) was down 2.50% or 220.95 points to 8,610.00.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which rose 2.66% to 960.90, IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which was up 1.99% to settle at 961.55 and Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which gained 1.25% to close at 3,104.60.

The worst performers were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which was down 3.80% to 1,135.45 in late trade, Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) which lost 3.31% to settle at 2,420.15 and Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which was down 2.41% to 8,613.30 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1113 to 748 and 48 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1841 fell and 1455 advanced, while 174 ended unchanged.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 6.19% to 17.68.

Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.10% or 1.70 to $1,729.10 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 0.84% or 0.80 to hit $95.50 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 0.55% or 0.54 to trade at $98.92 a barrel.

USD/INR was down 0.09% to 79.77, while EUR/INR rose 0.03% to 81.53.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.25% at 106.35.
