Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the , and sectors led shares lower.

At the close in NSE, the lost 0.52%, while the index lost 0.50%.

The best performers of the session on the were Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. (NS:), which rose 4.89% or 13.90 points to trade at 298.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Grasim Industries Ltd (NS:) added 2.64% or 20.35 points to end at 792.00 and Nestle India Ltd (NS:) was up 1.84% or 281.05 points to 15561.80 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:), which fell 5.25% or 6.45 points to trade at 116.30 at the close. Coal India Ltd (NS:) declined 5.24% or 10.60 points to end at 191.55 and NTPC Ltd (NS:) was down 3.97% or 4.65 points to 112.50.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Nestle India Ltd (BO:) which rose 1.86% to 15564.60, Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:) which was up 1.61% to settle at 2206.50 and Infosys Ltd (BO:) which gained 1.06% to close at 769.95.

The worst performers were Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:) which was down 5.13% to 116.45 in late trade, NTPC Ltd (BO:) which lost 4.27% to settle at 112.20 and Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (BO:) which was down 2.46% to 1585.90 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 892 to 617 and 117 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1342 fell and 1041 advanced, while 160 ended unchanged.

Shares in Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:) fell to 5-year lows; losing 5.25% or 6.45 to 116.30. Shares in Nestle India Ltd (NS:) rose to all time highs; rising 1.84% or 281.05 to 15561.80. Shares in Nestle India Ltd (BO:) rose to all time highs; up 1.86% or 284.40 to 15564.60. Shares in Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:) fell to 5-year lows; falling 5.13% or 6.30 to 116.45.

The , which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 3.14% to 16.3600 a new 1-month high.

Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.02% or 0.35 to $1558.25 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 0.75% or 0.44 to hit $57.94 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 0.65% or 0.42 to trade at $64.17 a barrel.

USD/INR was up 0.08% to 71.220, while EUR/INR rose 0.15% to 78.9795.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.05% at 97.345.
