India stocks lower at close of trade; Nifty 50 down 0.48%

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 0.48%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 0.41%.

The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Titan Company Ltd (NS:TITN), which rose 2.05% or 50.55 points to trade at 2,519.05 at the close. Meanwhile, Larsen & Toubro Ltd (NS:LART) added 1.82% or 39.45 points to end at 2,203.30 and NTPC Ltd (NS:NTPC) was up 1.67% or 2.75 points to 167.75 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Adani Enterprises Ltd (NS:ADEL), which fell 7.00% or 129.30 points to trade at 1,717.65 at the close. Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (NS:APSE) declined 5.18% or 30.25 points to end at 553.70 and State Bank Of India (NS:SBI) was down 2.81% or 15.55 points to 537.50.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Titan Company Ltd (BO:TITN) which rose 2.07% to 2,519.45, Larsen & Toubro Ltd (BO:LART) which was up 1.88% to settle at 2,203.70 and NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which gained 1.70% to close at 167.85.

The worst performers were State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which was down 2.83% to 537.30 in late trade, Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which lost 2.52% to settle at 1,567.40 and Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which was down 1.49% to 3,482.75 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1393 to 544 and 58 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2250 fell and 1220 advanced, while 159 ended unchanged.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 7.34% to 13.68.

Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.29% or 5.40 to $1,869.10 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 1.33% or 1.06 to hit $78.66 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 1.27% or 1.10 to trade at $85.29 a barrel.

USD/INR was up 0.26% to 82.72, while EUR/INR rose 0.31% to 88.35.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.07% at 103.61.
