India stocks lower at close of trade; Nifty 50 down 0.37%

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 0.37%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 0.37%.

The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were IndusInd Bank Ltd. (NS:INBK), which rose 4.46% or 51.95 points to trade at 1,215.75 at the close. Meanwhile, NTPC Ltd (NS:NTPC) added 2.96% or 4.95 points to end at 172.35 and Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (NS:PGRD) was up 2.51% or 5.70 points to 232.50 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Infosys Ltd (NS:INFY), which fell 4.50% or 69.55 points to trade at 1,475.40 at the close. Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (NS:TCS) declined 3.37% or 108.95 points to end at 3,120.40 and Tech Mahindra Ltd (NS:TEML) was down 2.85% or 32.75 points to 1,114.70.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which rose 4.48% to 1,216.40, Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which was up 2.58% to settle at 232.50 and NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which gained 2.57% to close at 171.65.

The worst performers were Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which was down 4.53% to 1,475.00 in late trade, Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which lost 3.36% to settle at 3,120.85 and Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:TEML) which was down 2.61% to 1,117.45 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1064 to 790 and 34 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1724 fell and 1608 advanced, while 131 ended unchanged.

Shares in NTPC Ltd (NS:NTPC) rose to 5-year highs; gaining 2.96% or 4.95 to 172.35. Shares in NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) rose to 5-year highs; up 2.57% or 4.30 to 171.65.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 4.62% to 18.28.

Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.22% or 3.70 to $1,713.70 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 0.70% or 0.61 to hit $87.92 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 0.71% or 0.66 to trade at $93.83 a barrel.

USD/INR was down 0.18% to 79.46, while EUR/INR rose 0.32% to 79.58.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.41% at 109.08.
