India stocks higher at close of trade; Nifty 50 up 1.63%

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 gained 1.63%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index gained 1.78%.

The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Reliance Industries Ltd (NS:RELI), which rose 4.30% or 96.20 points to trade at 2,330.90 at the close. Meanwhile, Nestle India Ltd (NS:NEST) added 3.40% or 647.00 points to end at 19,699.95 and ICICI Bank Ltd (NS:ICBK) was up 3.17% or 26.95 points to 877.95 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Apollo Hospitals Enterprises Ltd. (NS:APLH), which fell 1.30% or 56.80 points to trade at 4,306.20 at the close. Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NS:SUN) declined 0.98% or 9.70 points to end at 982.20 and Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (NS:APSE) was down 0.73% or 4.65 points to 632.00.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) which rose 4.29% to 2,331.05, Nestle India Ltd (BO:NEST) which was up 3.30% to settle at 19,691.85 and Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which gained 3.19% to close at 1,427.70.

The worst performers were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which was down 0.77% to 983.10 in late trade, Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which lost 0.27% to settle at 2,761.65 and Bajaj Finance Ltd (BO:BJFN) which was down 0.24% to 5,615.40 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1305 to 634 and 48 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2280 rose and 1148 declined, while 114 ended unchanged.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 5.08% to 12.94.

Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.03% or 0.60 to $1,998.30 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 0.61% or 0.45 to hit $74.82 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 0.36% or 0.28 to trade at $78.88 a barrel.

USD/INR was up 0.11% to 82.21, while EUR/INR fell 0.02% to 89.46.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.25% at 102.08.
