India stocks higher at close of trade; Nifty 50 up 1.07%

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 gained 1.07%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index gained 0.90%.

The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Tata Motors Ltd (NS:TAMO), which rose 5.16% or 16.95 points to trade at 345.25 at the close. Meanwhile, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NS:MAHM) added 4.58% or 37.55 points to end at 857.00 and Wipro Ltd (NS:WIPR) was up 4.49% or 18.60 points to 433.00 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:ONGC), which fell 2.56% or 3.00 points to trade at 114.05 at the close. Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (NS:HDFC) declined 1.19% or 31.00 points to end at 2575.00 and Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (NS:REDY) was down 1.01% or 45.20 points to 4408.20.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which rose 4.76% to 858.05, NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which was up 3.69% to settle at 112.45 and Bajaj Auto Ltd (BO:BAJA) which gained 3.53% to close at 3947.55.

The worst performers were Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) which was down 3.16% to 113.45 in late trade, Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (BO:HDFC) which lost 1.20% to settle at 2576.00 and Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (BO:REDY) which was down 1.04% to 4407.00 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1035 to 615 and 67 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1788 rose and 1099 declined, while 159 ended unchanged.

Shares in Tata Motors Ltd (NS:TAMO) rose to 52-week highs; gaining 5.16% or 16.95 to 345.25. Shares in NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) rose to 52-week highs; rising 3.69% or 4.00 to 112.45.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 7.88% to 23.6050.

Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.28% or 4.85 to $1727.85 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 0.07% or 0.04 to hit $60.60 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 0.27% or 0.17 to trade at $63.52 a barrel.

USD/INR was down 0.06% to 73.350, while EUR/INR fell 0.26% to 88.1880.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.18% at 91.198.
