India stocks higher at close of trade; Nifty 50 up 0.99%

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 gained 0.99%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 1.12%.

The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Shree Cements Ltd. (NS:SHCM), which rose 5.51% or 1,277.40 points to trade at 24,458.45 at the close. Meanwhile, Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL) added 3.98% or 13.00 points to end at 339.85 and AXIS Bank Ltd (NS:AXBK) was up 3.22% or 24.35 points to 779.75 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC), which fell 2.84% or 12.30 points to trade at 420.55 at the close. Tata Steel Ltd (NS:TISC) declined 1.63% or 1.75 points to end at 105.85 and SBI Life Insurance Company Ltd (NS:SBIL) was down 1.04% or 13.85 points to 1,317.70.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:TEML) which rose 3.23% to 1,090.35, AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which was up 3.22% to settle at 779.85 and ICICI Bank Ltd (BO:ICBK) which gained 2.57% to close at 898.90.

The worst performers were Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which was down 1.63% to 105.85 in late trade, NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which lost 0.33% to settle at 166.75 and Titan Company Ltd (BO:TITN) which was down 0.32% to 2,629.50 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1104 to 742 and 45 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1947 rose and 1370 declined, while 120 ended unchanged.

Shares in ICICI Bank Ltd (BO:ICBK) rose to all time highs; up 2.57% or 22.50 to 898.90.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 5.49% to 18.31.

Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.30% or 5.20 to $1,733.00 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 0.02% or 0.02 to hit $81.92 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 0.01% or 0.01 to trade at $87.99 a barrel.

USD/INR was up 0.06% to 79.68, while EUR/INR rose 0.17% to 79.76.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.26% at 109.54.
