Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the , and sectors led shares higher.

At the close in NSE, the gained 0.91%, while the index added 0.87%.

The best performers of the session on the were Tata Motors Ltd (NS:), which rose 10.68% or 17.70 points to trade at 183.40 at the close. Meanwhile, Yes Bank Ltd (NS:) added 8.58% or 3.00 points to end at 37.95 and Tata Steel Ltd (NS:) was up 5.75% or 26.00 points to 477.90 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. (NS:), which fell 6.38% or 15.60 points to trade at 228.90 at the close. Hero MotoCorp Ltd (NS:) declined 3.58% or 88.05 points to end at 2374.00 and Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (NS:) was down 3.08% or 99.85 points to 3142.00.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Tata Steel Ltd (BO:) which rose 5.14% to 475.30, Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:) which was up 2.77% to settle at 533.50 and Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:) which gained 1.91% to close at 2148.00.

The worst performers were Hero MotoCorp Ltd (BO:) which was down 3.55% to 2374.95 in late trade, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:) which lost 2.25% to settle at 7037.85 and Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:) which was down 2.24% to 189.95 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 846 to 663 and 107 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1285 rose and 1072 declined, while 175 ended unchanged.

Shares in Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. (NS:) fell to 5-year lows; down 6.38% or 15.60 to 228.90. Shares in Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:) rose to 5-year highs; up 2.77% or 14.40 to 533.50.

The , which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 1.44% to 14.1725.

Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.01% or 0.15 to $1555.65 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 2.26% or 1.12 to hit $50.73 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 2.50% or 1.35 to trade at $55.31 a barrel.

USD/INR was up 0.18% to 71.240, while EUR/INR fell 0.01% to 78.5225.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.10% at 97.905.
