At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 gained 0.86%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 0.83%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Asian Paints Ltd. (NS:ASPN), which rose 2.93% or 95.80 points to trade at 3368.20 at the close. Meanwhile, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NS:SUN) added 2.64% or 21.00 points to end at 815.10 and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NS:MAHM) was up 2.46% or 20.15 points to 838.70 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (NS:PGRD), which fell 0.34% or 0.70 points to trade at 205.40 at the close. IndusInd Bank Ltd. (NS:INBK) declined 0.30% or 2.60 points to end at 852.65 and ICICI Bank Ltd (NS:ICBK) was down 0.03% or 0.20 points to 735.80.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which rose 2.85% to 3367.15, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which was up 2.59% to settle at 815.00 and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which gained 2.53% to close at 839.00.
The worst performers were IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which was down 0.29% to 852.70 in late trade, Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which lost 0.22% to settle at 205.60 and ICICI Bank Ltd (BO:ICBK) which was up 0.04% to 736.05 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1430 to 369 and 24 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2531 rose and 751 declined, while 93 ended unchanged.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 3.75% to 16.4750.
Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.26% or 4.75 to $1813.55 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 1.02% or 0.77 to hit $76.34 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 0.92% or 0.72 to trade at $78.94 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.36% to 74.692, while EUR/INR fell 0.66% to 84.3385.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.19% at 96.265.
