India stocks higher at close of trade; Nifty 50 up 0.73%

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 gained 0.73%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index gained 0.85%.

The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were State Bank Of India (NS:SBI), which rose 3.19% or 16.80 points to trade at 544.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Bajaj Finserv Ltd (NS:BJFS) added 2.09% or 35.30 points to end at 1,723.60 and AXIS Bank Ltd (NS:AXBK) was up 2.00% or 16.00 points to 816.50 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC), which fell 2.08% or 8.25 points to trade at 388.90 at the close. Larsen & Toubro Ltd (NS:LART) declined 1.42% or 27.20 points to end at 1,884.40 and JSW Steel Ltd (NS:JSTL) was down 1.30% or 8.30 points to 631.95.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which rose 3.20% to 543.90, NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which was up 1.88% to settle at 168.10 and Bajaj Finserv Ltd (BO:BJFS) which gained 1.80% to close at 1,718.80.

The worst performers were Larsen & Toubro Ltd (BO:LART) which was down 1.45% to 1,883.80 in late trade, HCL Technologies Ltd (BO:HCLT) which lost 0.77% to settle at 994.75 and Wipro Ltd (BO:WIPR) which was down 0.60% to 375.05 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1049 to 797 and 69 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1872 fell and 1505 advanced, while 157 ended unchanged.

Shares in Wipro Ltd (BO:WIPR) fell to 52-week lows; losing 0.60% or 2.25 to 375.05.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 0.88% to 18.42.

Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.73% or 12.10 to $1,661.00 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 0.64% or 0.54 to hit $85.19 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 0.63% or 0.58 to trade at $92.21 a barrel.

USD/INR was down 0.02% to 82.32, while EUR/INR rose 0.30% to 80.26.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.31% at 112.85.
