India stocks higher at close of trade; Nifty 50 up 0.69%

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 added 0.69%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 0.83%.

The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Bajaj Finance Ltd (NS:BJFN), which rose 3.16% or 217.80 points to trade at 7,111.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NS:MAHM) added 2.92% or 59.05 points to end at 2,084.00 and HDFC Bank Ltd (NS:HDBK) was up 2.56% or 38.30 points to 1,533.00 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Bajaj Auto Ltd (NS:BAJA), which fell 2.46% or 222.30 points to trade at 8,799.00 at the close. Divi’s Laboratories Ltd. (NS:DIVI) declined 1.32% or 48.90 points to end at 3,660.00 and Nestle India Ltd (NS:NEST) was down 1.32% or 32.55 points to 2,430.00.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Bajaj Finance Ltd (BO:BJFN) which rose 3.16% to 7,107.00, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which was up 2.72% to settle at 2,079.15 and HDFC Bank Ltd (BO:HDBK) which gained 2.60% to close at 1,533.50.

The worst performers were Nestle India Ltd (BO:NEST) which was down 1.33% to 2,430.00 in late trade, HCL Technologies Ltd (BO:HCLT) which lost 1.20% to settle at 1,450.00 and Larsen & Toubro Ltd (BO:LART) which was down 1.10% to 3,512.00 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1205 to 975 and 54 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1995 fell and 1651 advanced, while 111 ended unchanged.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 3.20% to 13.46.

Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.05% or 1.20 to $2,396.80 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 0.51% or 0.42 to hit $82.31 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 0.59% or 0.51 to trade at $86.60 a barrel.

USD/INR was down 0.09% to 83.49, while EUR/INR fell 0.04% to 88.93.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.06% at 105.92.
