India stocks higher at close of trade; Nifty 50 up 0.46%

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 added 0.46% to hit a new 1-month high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 0.36%.

The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were JSW Steel Ltd (NS:JSTL), which rose 5.47% or 35.25 points to trade at 679.60 at the close. Meanwhile, Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC) added 3.51% or 14.00 points to end at 412.40 and Tata Steel Ltd (NS:TISC) was up 2.96% or 3.00 points to 104.20 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Bajaj Finance Ltd (NS:BJFN), which fell 1.86% or 131.80 points to trade at 6,971.10 at the close. Bajaj Finserv Ltd (NS:BJFS) declined 1.66% or 27.60 points to end at 1,630.95 and Asian Paints Ltd. (NS:ASPN) was down 1.34% or 41.45 points to 3,043.45.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which rose 3.02% to 104.20, Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which was up 2.47% to settle at 223.85 and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which gained 2.04% to close at 1,011.60.

The worst performers were Bajaj Finance Ltd (BO:BJFN) which was down 1.92% to 6,967.85 in late trade, Bajaj Finserv Ltd (BO:BJFS) which lost 1.68% to settle at 1,631.20 and Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which was down 1.32% to 3,044.60 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 952 to 865 and 65 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1727 rose and 1532 declined, while 124 ended unchanged.

Shares in Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) rose to 5-year highs; rising 2.04% or 20.25 to 1,011.60.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 1.67% to 16.60 a new 1-month low.

Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.28% or 4.65 to $1,664.55 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 0.46% or 0.40 to hit $88.31 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 0.37% or 0.35 to trade at $94.14 a barrel.

USD/INR was up 0.73% to 82.50, while EUR/INR rose 0.26% to 82.75.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.42% at 110.02.
